What is Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted connection between a web server and a browser. This connection ensures that all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private and integral. If a transaction of money or sale (think online retailer) is to occur online, the pages and/or connection needs to be secure.
