Private Auction, aka Private Exchange, Private Marketplace, Closed Auction or Invitation-only Auction, is a type of programmatic advertising that is similar to an Open Marketplace (Open RTB or Open Auction) but its restricted to only a few buyers and accessed by invitation-only allowing publishers to monetize their inventory more efficiently and place rules around who can purchase impressions.
